Love is in the air… Happy Valentine’s Day!

So, Valentine’s Day is here again. Overpriced cards, flowers, and one-off gushy sentimental treats that leave everyone feeling a bit sick by tomorrow morning.
Why not treat your loved one to something a bit different this year by booking one of our ‘Love Shoots’, and spend some valuable time together creating some beautiful photographs. The shoot can take place either in the studio or at a location of your choice close to your home and lasts about 1 and a half hours, so we have plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and some peace and quiet.

As an extra treat, for those people who are recently engaged, if you book one of these shoots and then subsequently book your wedding photography with Lightbox Studios, the price of the shoot will actually be discounted off your wedding package!

Lights, Make Up, Costumes, Flowers – It’s Showtime!

I recently had the honour of being asked by the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton, to shoot all of the photography to help celebrate and promote their new Marriage licences for the fabulous Ovation restaurant and Empire Suite.

With some fabulous dresses kindly donated by Brides of Southampton, we spent a few hours making the most of this amazing and completely alternative wedding venue.

Unfortunately, due to the stage being used for the set-up of the incredible Phantom of the Opera show, we were unable (or even allowed due to copyright!) to get on stage for any photos, or even include it in the background of the shots. Nonetheless, there are so many cool locations and features of the 1920′s architecture to include that we were still spoilt for choice.

Here are just a few of my favourites from the shoot!

Ernie & Satomi – A Beautiful Outdoor Wedding at Old Alresford House.

In September, I had the total delight and privilege to photograph the wedding of Ernie & Satomi, a lovely couple referred to me by the wonderful wedding planner Marie Haverley from Isabella Weddings. Although every wedding blog in the world says something nice about each couple, both Ernie & Satomi are the sort of people that you feel that you’ve known for years, and when we first met several months back, I immediately felt at ease in their company, and I knew that I HAD to photograph their wedding.
Fast forward to September and a lovely sunny Saturday at their spectacular venue, Old Alresford House and we were in for a real treat.
I’ll let the photographs do the rest of the talking, except to say that it truly was my pleasure to be part of such a glorious wedding day and that I hope that this selection of my favourite photos from their day can give you a little glimpse of how much fun it was to be a part of.

A beautiful wedding dress for a beautiful bride. Satomi's mum had brought her amazing wedding dress, very carefully, all the way from Japan, and it was well worth the effort.

Back on 27th July, just as the world was preparing for the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, I was spending a fantastic and emotional day with Kelly & Jez Harris as they tied the knot at Macdonald Botley Park Hotel, Hampshire.

It was a fantastic day, and the Olympic Opening Ceremony didn’t stand a chance! There were tears, more tears, and even more tears again – and that was just from Jez, our incredibly happy but emotional Groom!

The photos below are a tiny little sneak peek at my favourite photos from their day. More will follow soon, but for now, I hope you like this little selection.

In the coming week, I’m hoping to add several posts, from weddings to newborn portraits, a snippet of commercial photography through to the Great Big British Portrait Marathon in August, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support!

Carlos & Sam – A Wedding at Old Thorns Manor Hotel.

I recently posted a sneak peek from Carlos & Sam’s gorgeous wedding day at Old Thorns Manor Hotel. Well, they seemed to go down so well that here are the rest of them, or at least my favourite selection!

Carlos & I go way back (over 30 years!) and it was a real privilege to be a part of the wedding day as he married his lovely fiancée Sam alongside all of their friends and family.

Old Thorns is an amazing venue, with a totally eclectic mix of interior design throughout each different section of the hotel. From a wall of classic movie images, fine art and sculptures, right through to a self-playing piano and a pair of matching thrones. Add a championship Golf Course to the mix, and we really were spoilt for choice when it came to choosing locations for some intimate portraits of the newly married Mr & Mrs Dabreo.

LOST PROPHETS – Southampton Guildhall, 2nd May 2012.

The Lost Prophets rolled up in their tour bus to Southampton Guildhall last week for a long overdue visit, and they had plenty of fans more than happy to see them.
I was there on behalf of the Guildhall as usual, although I was expecting the pit to be a little busier with photographers (maybe they heard about the shockingly bad lights!), and in total just three photographers were there to capture Welsh rockers Ian Watkins & Co, complete with megaphone, in their full glory.
I’m sure their adoring fanbase had an amazing time. The band rocked out all of their best known songs and got a great reception. Shooting a lively rock band in almost total silhouette is pretty tricky, but you have to crack on, and I’m pretty happy with this set of images.
No doubt the fans will be hoping to see them back on the South Coast in the near future. If the band bring a few more lights next time, then maybe a few more photographers might hope they come back again too.
